So, as well as a DJ, i’m also a Viral/Commercials Producer (wow, man of many talents). I was recently working on a series of web virals for Sony and one of them was for their new Cybershot WX5.
One of the scenes (to demo the low light feature of the camera) required a cool club / lounge bar party to be built on this small section of St Katherine’s Docks
This scene also required a DJ and so after looking at a couple of possible extras as options (yuck) and working out if I’d be too busy on set myself, I got the thumbs up from the Director and MD and it was decided I should play the role… It also required me to actually spin some tunes and get a proper vibe going on the set, making sure everyone had the right swing.
In the end i also brought down my speakers (KRK VXT4s)… they’re actually studio monitors and not meant for playing out but i knew they’d be loud enough… well I ended up blowing one of the bass bins (boo) but it was a wicked vibe in the end and the video turned out nice too. So, all’s well that ends well.
